LAHORE

The Punjab Health Department cancelled transfer-posting orders of a health inspector/drug inspector whose attachment with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Lahore, was withdrawn last week.

Drug Inspector Hassan Saeed (BS-17), who was attached in February 2015 with FIA, Lahore, to coordinate with it for carrying out raids related to spurious and unregistered drugs in the province, was removed from FIA on February 24, 2017 and was asked to report to the secretary, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD), Punjab.

But the Health Department cancelled the order of his detachment from FIA and asked him to continue his work with the agency. Hasan Saeed is the drug inspector who along with FIA team had raided Mayo Hospital, Lahore, some two months back and recovered several dozens of unregistered stents from the Cardiac Ward of the hospital. During the stents scandal probe, Hassan had asked the Provincial Quality Control Board (PQCB) led by secretary, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD), Punjab, to allow him to register an FIR against Cardiac Ward of Mayo Hospital head Prof Dr Saqib Shafi for his role in stents scam. The PQCB is yet to approve the recommendation for FIR against Shafi even several weeks have passed since then.

Talking to The News,P&SHD Secretary  Ali Jan Khan confirmed that Hassan Saeed was transferred from FIA last week but for some administrative issues rather anything else.

"We wanted to replace him with some other inspector for FIA as he has already worked there for the past few years," observed Jan, adding that no coercive action was taken against him even for conducting raid on Mayo Hospital. “On the request of FIA, we have cancelled our latest order. Now Hassan’s previous status has been restored and he is allowed to continue his work with the agency”, the secretary said.

To a question, Ali Jan shared that, being chairman of PQCB, he would summon a meeting of the board in the current month to decide on the recommendation for registration of an FIR against Prof Dr Saqib Shafi.
