Murad, Khursheed brief Zardari on latest developments

KARACHI: Former MNA Nabil Gabol on Wednesday announced to rejoin the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) after a gap of nearly four years.

The announcement came as the ex-MNA met former president Asif Ali Zardari at the Bilawal House on Wednesday. On the occasion, Nabil Gabol expressed full confidence in the leadership of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

It should be recalled here that Nabil Gabol had joined MQM in March, 2013. Later, he was awarded a ticket by the MQM to contest May 2013’s general elections from Azizabad’s NA-246 constituency. He won the constituency with a record margin of votes. However, following differences with the leadership of MQM, he announced to part ways with the party.

After quitting MQM, Gabol had been weighing a number of options regarding his future. He also considered joining the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as he met PTI chief Imran Khan once and later announced to join the sit-in of the party in Islamabad last year.

Gabol had been in touch with the leadership of PPP for the past few months. He had earlier won Lyari’s NA-248 constituency as a PPP MNA. Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah met former president Asif Ali Zardari at the Bilawal House earlier in the day.

The opposition leader briefed the former president about the ongoing deliberations of parliamentary parties on the bill drafted by the government for extending the term of military courts in Pakistan.

On the occasion, Zardari said that the supremacy of parliament and democratic institutions should be maintained in all circumstances and governance matters. He said that the government should take parliament and different concerned parliamentary parties into confidence on new policy and initiative adopted to tackle the menace of terrorism and militancy in the country.

It was decided that the PPP would support the viewpoint of the entire parliament and rest of the parliamentary parties on the issue of extending the term of military courts. the PPP would also reiterate its stance for the reconstitution of parliamentary committee on national security.

The PPP would also emphasise on the implementation of National Action Plan against terrorism.

The PPP would be in favour of adopting a consensus strategy for reforming the judicial system of the country for speeding up the process of handing down punishment to terrorists. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also met the PPP leadership at the Bilawal House and briefed about the progress made in investigating the Sehwan incident so far. He also briefed about other governance and administrative matters of the province.
