PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday arrested an official of Communications and Works Department and a contractor.

Faiz Muhammad, executive engineer, Highway Division Kurram Agency Communications and Works Department, and contractor Nadir Khan were arrested for their alleged involvement in embezzlement of Rs60 million meant for construction of a road in Kurram Agency, said a press release.

It was stated that the Fata Development Authority (FDA) had allocated Rs80 million for the construction of 6.5km-long road from Malota to Shagai and 3.5km road Daradar to Zora Top, an area having soapstone deposits.

"The FDA handed over the work for execution to the Highway Division C&W Department Kurram Agency," the bureau claimed.

During the course of inquiry, it was revealed that the work was not done, while fudge payment has been made on the account of the roads. Thus the accused allegedly embezzled more than Rs60 million. The statement said the NAB was examining the inquiry/investigation and more arrests were expected.
