CPWB takes custody of 29 beggars

The Child Protection and Welfare Bureau on Wednesday took into custody at least 29 child beggars, 20 boys and nine girls, from various roads.

They were taken into custody from the areas of Data Darbar, Railway Station, Gulberg, Defense, Cavalry Ground,Moon Market, Karim Block, Johar Town, Barkat Market, Faisal Town and Shoukat Khanum.They have been sent to child protection institutions.  On the instructions of CPWB chairperson Saba Sadiq, the bureau has launched an operation against the child beggars begging on the city roads and signals.

arrested: Lahore Police Operations Wing claimed to have arrested 225 accused persons of 97 gangs here in Lahore and 276 cases were also traced in the month of January, 2017.

According to a handout issued Wednesday, Lahore Police also recovered booty and Rs15 million in cash from the gang members. Besides, 126 Proclaimed Offenders (POs) and 1,003 Court Absconders (CAs) were also arrested during the same period.

According to details, DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf directed police officers for the implementation of National Action Plan and utilising their full energies to curb the crime in the city and arrest the criminals involved in different unlawful activities.

On his directions, all divisional SPs increased their efforts against criminals and showed excellent results by arresting 225 criminals of 97 gangs who were involved in different heinous crimes; 126 POs, 1,003 CAs, including A&B categories were also arrested. Moreover, cases were registered against 483 accused persons on having illicit weapons and police also recovered one Kalashnikov, 22 rifles, 21 guns, 429 revolvers and pistols, three daggers and 2,501 bullets from their possession.

During the action against drug dealers, 868 cases were registered and 871 culprits were arrested and 4.36kg heroin, 321.63kg chars, 1.27kg opium and 10,073 bottles of liquor recovered from them.
