No more extension in deadline of Karal Interchange, says mayor

Project to be completed within given time frame; carpeting work on main interchange begins; five loops of interchange have been completed

Keeping in view the importance of Karal Interchange, Islamabad administration has made it clear upon the contractors of the development project that they will not get any further extension and the interchange should be opened for traffic as soon as possible.

Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Sheikh Anser Aziz during his visit to the project site Wednesday, directed the project director to make all out efforts for ensuring quality in carpeting work so that the commuters could be provided with a state-of-the-art facility.

While inspecting construction work at Karal Interchange, Islamabad mayor inspected the main bridge of the Interchange and directed the project director to complete road carpeting of residual portion and ensure optimum level of quality and standards in construction work.

He said: “Islamabad Expressway Signal Free Corridor project is of immense importance and in accordance with the directions of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, construction work on the project is being completed phase wise. After completion of first phase, construction work on Karal Interchange is at final stages.”

Islamabad mayor also inspected the landscaping work, being carried out at different portions of the interchange and directed the concerned officer to utilise modern technology in the landscaping in addition to plantation of ever green plants and flowering trees and special arrangements for watering of the plants.

Sheikh Anser Aziz also expressed his satisfaction over the work carried out on five loops and carpeting of main bridge of the interchange. He directed to carry out development work 24/7 so that the residual work could be completed within given time frame.

On this occasion, Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman CDA, Sheikh Anser Aziz was informed that in addition to the completion of loops, service road east and west have been completed and carpeting on these roads is at final stages while carpeting on the main bridge of the interchange was initiated Wednesday evening. He was further informed that light polls are being installed while fixation of curb stones has been completed. He was apprised that while carrying out landscaping of the loops survival of existing plants is being ensured.

He also directed to expedite installation of light polls and landscaping work.

On the occasion, Director General Works, Project Director of Karal Interchange, contractor and other senior officers of the authority were also present.
