Mukhtar Mai closes school in Meerwala

MUZAFFARGARH: Mukhtar Mai, a renowned rights activist, has closed her school in Meerwala for security reasons, asking 1,000 students to stay at home.
Talking to The News, Mukhtar Mai said that the district administration had refused to provide security and funds for security. “I am unable to meet these expenses because I have no resources,” she said. “I have been receiving financial assistance from foreign donors for the school, but now it has been suspended.” She said that she had applied to Punjab Education Foundation for registration, but her application was not entertained. “Now the future of 1,000 students is bleak and they will not have an access to education,” she said.
