US CG calls on Khuhro to discuss schools’ security

US Consul General Brain Heath called on Sindh Senior Minister for Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro at his office in the Sindh Assembly building on Wednesday to discuss reforms in education and the security measures being taken for schools in the province.
Khuhro briefed the US Consul General about educational reforms in Sindh and appreciated the efforts of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to boost the education sector in Sindh. He said that it was the first time that induction of the teachers has been made purely on the merit through the National Testing Service.
He said the USAID’s assistance in imparting qualitative education right from the primary level had proved to be an instrumental source.
Talking about steps taken by the provincial government, Khuhro said it was trying to promote girls’ education and in this regard the education department was giving stipends to female students in the province.
He said the government had distributed stipends between Rs2,500 and Rs3,500 among girls studying in classes sixth till tenth through easy paisa and ATM card service to ensure transparency in the process.
Briefing the consul general on security matters, Khuhro said a checklist of essential security measures had been circulated among school administrations who should implement them strictly. He said patrolling of Rangers and police had also been increased in areas around schools.
The US consul general assured Khuhro of continuing to assist the Sindh government in developing its education sector. “We are committed to support education in Pakistan, the key to a brighter future for the country’s children,” he said. “The US and the Sindh government together will improve the quality of and access to education for children in Sindh.”
