First Pak women hockey league from tomorrow
KARACHI: Five teams will be participating in the First Pakistan Women Hockey League which starts from Friday (tomorrow) at the National Hockey Stadium, Lahore.
The teams are Lahore Lions, Islamabad Shaheens, Peshawar Deers, Karachi Dolphins and Quetta Panthers.
The league is being organised by the Punjab Women Hockey Association (PWHA) in collaboration with the Sports Board Punjab (SBP) and Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF).
PWHA secretary Rahat Khan, organising secretary of the league, gave the details of the event at a press conference at the National Hockey Stadium.
Director General SBP Zulfiqar Ghumman and Director Development and Domestic PHF Naveed Alam were also present on the occasion.
The five teams include experienced departmental players besides youngsters.
The players have been allocated to the teams so as to form balanced outfits.
SBP has sanctioned Rs500,000 for the event, apart from giving accommodation to the players.
PHF is providing umpires and technical officials.
The opening ceremony is scheduled on Thursday (today) afternoon with the unveiling of the logo and the trophy.
All the teams will play each other during the league.
