Stoppage of funds halts work on IJ Principal Road

Chief Metro Officer and Member Planning of Capital Development Authority (CDA) Asad Kiyani has said that stoppage of funds to the contractor has halted construction work on IJ Principal Road for quite some time but despite that it would be completed in stipulated timeframe.

"As soon as the accounts of CDA are unfrozen the funds would be provided to the contractor to resume work on the IJ Principal Road. The rain spell has caused damage to some parts of the newly constructed road that would also be repaired," he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that the road was constructed in 2005 and that traffic from Kashmir Highway and other roads has since been diverted to this road, which could no longer cater to the heavy traffic and needed to be improved.

The road was meant to bear eight tons of traffic when it was made and traffic has since increased to 25 tons. So CDA is reconstructing the road according to the needs of the increased traffic load.

Asad Kiyani said the construction work on IJP Road would be completed in line with the international practices and the commuters and motorists would be provided with a modern road facility. He said the project includes re-carpeting, lane marking, and up-gradation of drainage facilities on both sides of IJ Principal Road from Pindora Chungi to GT Road.
