Railways revenue has doubled, says Saad

Federal Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that Pakistan Railways revenue has increased by 100 percent to Rs36b this year compared to Rs18b in 2013.
Talking to media at Lahore Railways Station, he said that Pakistan Railway would earn Rs40b by June next year and cross the target. According to him, new Hopper wagons were being used for speedy transportation of coal for new power plants. “Pakistan Railways will earn Rs 5-6 billion profit in a year by providing coal transportation service only for the Sahiwal coal power project," he added. The minister said that Hopper wagons had the capacity of carrying 17 tonnes of coal while it can unload coal within 30 seconds. “We have controlled corruption at higher official level and it will be controlled at lower level shortly," he added.
According to him locomotives had been rehabilitated and their age will increase by 15 years. "After it, the freight capacity has increased to 3,400 tonnes.
