AIOU to introduce academic reforms this year

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) would introduce academic reforms this year to ensure quality education by bringing qualitative improvement in its various educational programs and students' services.
The main target would be promotion of research-based activities, strengthening of students' support system, updating curriculum and text books and pushing forward professional development. At least four research journals would be published while a package of incentives will be announced to provide cash prizes to academicians for their research work, AIOU Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui announced on Thursday.
Unfolding the AIOU's targets to be achieved during the year 2015, he said the on-going academic programs would be consolidated to achieve best results. Besides this, various measures would be taken for the welfare of the employees. A package of medical facilities for the employees would be announced within next two months after its approval of the University's Executive Council. The employees and their families would be entitled for their treatment from private medical practitioners and hospitals.
The vice chancellor hoped that the new reforms package would help reconstruct the image of the University home and abroad. A quarterly AIOU newsletter would be issued from next week. Format and contents of the University's website are being improved to meet contemporary needs. "We will be move to a higher level in term of quality education and improvement of students' services", he added.
Dr. Siddiqui further announced that the AIOU will also be turned into a centre of literary and intellectual activities. In this connection, four academic and professional development series have already been started. AIOU's library is being modernized to promote research-based self-learning process.
