KARACHI: Six cueists each from Sindh and Punjab and two each from Balochistan and Islamabad reached the knockout stage of the National Junior Under-21 Snooker championship 2015 whose league matches concluded here at the Movenpick Hotel on Wednesday.
No cueist from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could enter the pre-quarter-finals.
All the eight pre-quarter-finals, to be best-of-seven-frame contests, will be held on Thursday (today).
In the morning session, Abdul Rahim (Punjab) will take on Gawish Khan (Sindh); Mohammad Hassan Anwar (Islamabad) will combat Mohammad Ibrahim (Balochistan); Mohammad Saqib (Punjab) will lock horns with Muhammad Adil (Balochistan); and Mohammad Nouman Iqbal (Islamabad) will face Haris Tahir (Punjab).
In the afternoon session, scheduled to get underway at 1 pm, Mohammad Afzaal (Punjab) will be pitted against Tanvir Baloch (Sindh); Junaid Ali (Sindh) will tackle Mohammad Fahim (Punjab); Aamir Tariq (Punjab) will meet Muhammad Bilal (Sindh); and Ali Zaman Khan will face Fahad Khan.
Sindh fielded as many as 10 cueists in the competition due to the withdrawal of entries from the other provinces at the eleventh hour. All the eight cueists from Punjab turned out for the event, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Islamabad sent five, four and two entries, respectively.
At the end of the league matches, Abdul Rahim and Junaid Ali advanced to the last-16 from the Group A. Mohammad Saqib and Ali Zaman Khan cruised from Group B. Mohammad Afzal and Gawish Khan made it from Group C. Aamir Tariq and Mohammad Nouman Iqbal qualified from Group D. Haris Tahir and Mohammad Bilal shared the top two positions in Group E. Mohammad Ibrahim and Tanvir Baloch moved ahead from Group F. Mohammad Fahim and Mohammad Hassan Anwar proceeded to the pre-quarters from Group G. Fahad Khan and Mohammad Adil advanced from Group H.
