History being reborn in east: Dr Awan

December 11, 2016

Historians have agreed that east is the cradle of history and the process of evaluation is on, said Dr. Sajid Awan, president of the International Association of Historians of Asia.

Addressing the concluding session of the 24th conference of International Association of Historians of Asia (IAHA) conference titled ‘Asian History, Culture and Environment: Vernacular and Oriental Paradigms’, Dr Sajid Awan rejected the notion that history was born in the east and died in the west.

He said Asia gave the world its major religions and inventions and in return it did not take much from it. He said now it is the rebirth of history in the east. “We should be proud of it,” he said. Over 100 scholars presented their papers in two sessions of the conference. National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research (NIHCR) organised the event.

“Sojourners with high cognitive complexity have the capacity to understand the host culture through interpersonal communication as these individuals think in a multidimensional way,” concluded Dr Masrur Alam Khan of Riphah Institute of Media Sciences.

Dr Masrur Alam Khan said the influence of culture on communication patterns of sojourner is conceptualised as a casual effect on their perceptual complexity. The cognitive level is observed in the complexity of a sojourner’s perception of the host society through intercultural communication.

Hassan Shehzad and Shafqat Munir, mass communication scholars, evaluated leading magazines of the country in terms of their contribution towards democracy. They concluded that the time has come for decision makers to think about real issues instead of getting afraid from how media will portray them.

Mamoona Sajid of GC University, Faisalabad, discussed difficulties faced by English language teachers in teaching writing skills to mild mentally retarded students in ICT identifying and highlighting the importance of writing skills for the mentally retarded children.

Prof Dr Javed Haider Syed of University of Gujrat and Qudsia Batool of Government Women College, Lala Musa discussed Life and Works of Sufi Saint Shah Daula stating that he is popularly known throughout the world owing to his miracle of rat kids. He is known as miraculous personality only and people know very little about his vital input in society.
