KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court sentenced two extortionists – one five years and the other six years - in prison on Saturday.
The two men, Iqbal and Safdar, had demanded Rs500,000 from a trader, Arshad Khan, on November 13, 2014 in the jurisdiction of the Peerabad police station and threatened him of dire consequences if he did not pay.
The court observed that Iqbal was rather young and had no past criminal record so he was being handed down five years in prison and Safdar six years. Another ATC put off the hearing against alleged RAW agents Abdul Jabbar alias Tension, Mohsin, Khalid Aman, Shafi Khan, and Adil till January 2.
The accused are now being tried in the cases pertaining to possession of illegal arms and explosive material. As police failed to produce all the accused, the court preferred to adjourn the hearing till January 2.
