LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami and different trade organisations of Multan road have threatened to lay a siege of Chief Minister’s House if government did not fulfill their demands regarding alleviating the peoples’ problems caused by the unusual delay in completion of orange line train project.

Addressing a demonstration of crowd at Multan Chungi after Friday prayers, JI leader Amirul Azeem and trade leaders gave a charter of demands to Lahore administration and warned of a siege of CM House if it was not accepted and implemented. The charter of demands asked the government to give a new time table of project’s completion, permanent metalled roads should be constructed in all societies on both sides of Multan road, deploy sufficient number of traffic wardens to regulate the traffic flow, and water should be sprinkled on Multan road at least three times a day in order to prevent blowing up of dust which was causing serious health problems and diseases to the people, including asthma, allergies and other breathing problems.

The workers were raising slogans against the government and the departments concerned involved in the construction of orange line train project. They were addressed by JI information secretary Amirul Azeem and others.

Amirul Azeem said previous government had planned a much better train which had to run underground without causing problems to people living on surface and destroying their houses and shops, and that too with much less construction cost.

But unfortunately, he said, the present rulers had shelved that project presumably for more kickbacks which not only turned the entire city into ruins but also destroyed the historic archaeological sites, besides destroying the means of livelihood of thousands of families.
