Breach water submerges two villages

SUKKUR: A breach at Malwa Canal near Doulatpur inundated hundreds of acres of agricultural land as well as two villages.  The 50-foot breach inundated sugarcane and wheat crops spread over hundreds of acres of land.

 

Three revenue dept staffers held

SUKKUR: The anti-corruption police arrested three staff members of the revenue department of Mirpur Mathello.A team of Ghotki ACP, during a raid, arrested revenue collector, Imtiaz Kalwar, a clerk, Mukhtiar Soomro, and Muhammad Qasim, and recovered Rs25,000 which, according to the ACP, had been extorted from a man, Muhammad Yaqoob, as bribe for issuing a certificate.

 

Iran fashion workers jailed for ‘spreading prostitution’

Eight women and four men were handed sentences between five months and six years by a court in Shiraz, a lawyer told media. They were also banned from working in fashion and travelling abroad for two years afterwards, Mahmoud Taravat said. He added that his clients had denied the charges and planned to appeal.  The 12 were convicted of charges including spreading prostitution and promoting corruption via the publication of obscene images online, inciting people to corrupt themselves through putting on fashion shows, and spreading a "Western-style culture of nudity". They were not named by Mr Taravat in his interview with Ilna.

 

Two impersonators held

PAKPATTAN: Two impersonator candidates were held on Monday. The superintendent of FA/FSc examination being held at Government Faridid College, Pakpattan, detected two fake candidates. It was proved that accused Zoheeb was attempting the paper instead of Basharat and accused Idress instead of Aamar. Police have registered cases on the report of the superintendent.Liquor recovered: Police on Monday arrested accused and recovered liquor from their possession.Police arrested accused Shakeel of Fatah Chowk, Qaoola Town, with 17 litre liquor and accused Atif of Ashiqabad, Qaoola Town with seven litre liquor.Police have registered cases.       

 

Qandeel Baloch’s brother, two indicted

MULTAN: An additional sessions’ judge indicted the brother of slain social media sensation Qandeel Baloch and two others Monday. Judge Syed Muhammad Raza indicted Qandeel’s brother Waseem her cousin Haq Nawaz and another co-accused Abdul Basit. A fourth co-accused Qandeel’s cousin Zafar has been declared an absconder in the case. During the hearing of the case, police produced the record of the case before the judge. The next hearing of the case will resume on December 8. Model and actress Qandeel was found dead in her house in Multan’s Karimabad area on July 16. Qandeel’s brother Waseem was arrested in Dera Ghazi Khan later that night and confessed to killing her in the name of honour.

 

Two friends shot at, injured

TOBA TEK SINGH: Two friends were shot at and injured over a minor issue at Gojra on Monday.Accused Malik Amjad and his friends Saleem and Nasir exchanged hot words over some issue. Later, accused Amjad allegedly shot at and injured his both friends. The injured were rushed to the THQ Hospital Gojra.

 

IDPs’ problems to be addressed on priority basis: MNA

BARA: The problems faced by the displaced people belonging to the Kukikhel tribe in the Bara tehsil of the Khyber Agency would be solved on a priority basis, a parliamentarian said on Monday. Speaking to delegation of the displaced persons from Kukikhel tribe, Member National Assembly (MNA) Nasir Khan Afridi said that 95 percent of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Khyber Agency had been sent back to their native areas.The delegation was led by Dr Shah Khan Afridi belonging to Kukikhel tribe.He said he had taken up the issues of the IDPs with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor and other officials.The legislator added the governor had assured him that the problems of the I|DPs would be addressed.

       

Ex-agency surgeon, accountant arrested on graft charges

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday arrested Dr Daud Khan, a former agency surgeon, and Nisar Khan, Accountant of the Health Department, in Mohmand Agency on the charges of embezzling funds meant for paying the rent of community health centres and utility bills. As per an official communiqué, the accused were arrested for embezzling the funds meant for paying the rent of the community health centers and utility bills and buying medicines. They were accused of causing millions of rupees loss to the exchequer. The NAB claimed that the accused, Dr Daud Khan, who was Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO), pocketed millions of rupees in connivance with his accountant Nisar Khan.

    

IDP killed, eight injured in road accident

WANA: A tribesman was killed and eight of his family members sustained injuries in a road accident while returning to native area in South Waziristan.The family of Kalam Khan Mehsud was displaced during the military operation launched in 2009 and had settled in Dera Ghazi Khan.Their area was cleared by the security forces and the displaced family was returning home in Ladha tehsil when their vehicle fell into a ditch in Manzai on the Jandola-Tank Road.Kalam Khan was killed on the spot while eight of his family members, including women, sustained injuries. The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Tank.

 

MNSUA, Chinese company ink MoU

MULTAN: The Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture and Chinese Wohangoing seed company signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Monday.The Chinese company would exchange researchers, new technology of new seeds and research on new seed varieties. The MNSUA vice chancellor Prof Dr Asif Ali and Chang Lee inked the accord.Chang Lee also visited Pak-German Poly Technical Institute Chak 5 Faiz.
