Call to establish Industrial Zone in Okara

OKARA: The Pakistan Potato Growers Association and the Okara Chamber of Commerce & Industry have jointly demanded the government establish Industrial Zone/Tax Free Zone in the district.
In a function held here on Sunday, PPGA president Ch Siddique, vice-president Ch Maqsood, renowned agriculture scientist Dr Abdur Rauf Bhutta, Federal Seed Certification & Administrative Department DG Riasat Khan and others said that Okara district was producing a huge yield of potato and now industrialists wanted to establish industries of transforming potato into powder and other edible forms which Pakistan imports from China and other countries. They said that if potato-based industry establishes in the district, potato growers would bear almost no or at least lowest loss in cultivating and harvesting potato. The speakers told that the OCCI was already trying to get approval for the establishment of the Industrial Zone from the government in Okara district.
