ISLAMABAD: Police detained scores of physically disabled persons after they tried to march towards Lal Chowk in Srinagar to protest against the authorities’ failure to fulfill their demands.

According to Kashmir Media, the detained members of the Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association assembled at the Press Enclave on the World Disabled Day. As they moved forward towards Lal Chowk, the police galvanized into action and arrested them.

The disabled persons were chanting slogans against the authorities for failing to rehabilitate them. Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed at Baroosa in the central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district against the arrest of local youth. All shops remained closed in protest against the arrests.

Police had arrested Tariq Ahmad Jamshed Ahmad and Owais Ahmad from the locality last evening. The arrests also led to clashes between locals and police in the area. On the other hand, the colleagues of the guard of Fisheries Department, who was killed during a cordon and search operation by Indian forces at Chancher in Kulgam, staged a demonstration at Press Enclave in Srinagar and demanded arrest of the killers.
