Robbers injure two on resistance at Misri Shah
LAHORE
Robbers deprived citizens of their valuables including cash and gold ornaments and vehicles worth millions of rupees here on Saturday.
Two robbers stabbed and wounded two citizens, Hafiz Mansoor and Sadique, on resistance and deprived them of thousands of rupees in the Misri Shah area. Robbers took away Rs 150,000 and a bike from the house of Akram in Baghbanpura, Rs 4 lakhs from the family of Saleem in Faisal Town, Rs 86,000 from Zeeshan in Islampura, Rs 61,000 from Javed in Shadbagh and Rs 55,000 from one Moaz in Johar Town.
Cars were stolen in Islanmpura, Shadbagh, Iqbal Town and Nawab Town. Bikes were stolen from the areas of Islampura, Mughalpura, Township, Factory Area and South Cantt.
Performance: The Director General, Punjab Emergency Services (Rescue 1122) Dr. Rizwan Naseer, while presiding over a meeting of Rescue Officers at Rescue 1122 Headquarters on Saturday, carried out a performance review of emergency operations in all 36 Districts of Punjab to ensure uniform standard of the Service & smooth emergency services delivery without any discrimination.
He said that physical fitness is necessary for emergency management in professional manner. He directed all the District Emergency Officers to ensure professional competencies and physical fitness of all staff including officers. Dr. Rizwan Naseer further directed them to pay Morning Rounds of Rescue Stations, inspect vehicles and build working liaison with junior staff for effective working. The emergency data showed that 57274 victims of different emergencies were rescued by the Service while conducting 53967 rescue operations in last month all over the Punjab, with average response time of seven minutes.
The emergency calls to which Rescue 1122 responded, include: 19988 road traffic accidents, 26182 medical emergencies, 1020 fire incidents, 1388 crimes, 41 drowning incidents, 17 building collapses, 12 explosions and 5319 miscellaneous operations. According to the statistics, majority of fire incidents occurred in major cities, including 235 fire in Lahore, 95 in Faisalabad, 84 in Rawalpindi, 35 in Multan, 65 in Gujranwala and 29 in Sialkot. Similarly, 3908 traffic accidents were reported in Lahore, 1935 in Faisalabad, 1061 in Gujranwala, and 1116 in Multan and 783 in Rawalpindi.
The Director General, Punjab Emergency Service, Dr. Rizwan Naseer said that there is a dire need for effective enforcement and implementation of fire safety codes given in building bylaws. He said that main steps including external steel staircases, fire doors; pressurized external hydrants system, evacuation plan and emergency lighting system, installation of fire extinguishers, clear access and removal of obstructions from rooftops are effective to ensure life safety in high rise buildings.
