People urge PFA to continue operation
Rawalpindi
The residents have urged the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) to ignore threats of strike or protests from various quarters and continue its indiscriminate operation against those culprits who are selling substandard food items and earning profit at the cost of health of the people.
“I urge the government to introduce strict legislation and bring to book all those criminals who are playing with the health of the people by selling substandard ghee, oil, milk, meat and other food items,” said Khawar Malik, a student of Asghar Mall College.
He said sale of adulterated, fake and substandard food products has become a common practice in the society and it can never be eliminated unless those involved in it are given exemplary punishments.
It is pertinent to mention here that PFA has set up its regional office in Rawalpindi district and a grand operation is under way against sellers of substandard foot items. But some manufacturers and mill owners have called for strike after issuance of show-cause notices to them.
Kausar Shakeel, a housewife, said she has no hesitation to say that 'poisonous' substances are being sold on the name of ghee, oil, milk and bottled water, adding, “It is really good to hear that there is a government body that is taking action against sale of substandard food products.”
She said the most unfortunate aspect of this whole episode is that culprits have no fear of law so there is a need to make them an example to discourage this kind of crime from the society.
