Gangster gets death for murdering family in Mauripur
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday handed down death penalty to a Lyari gangster, who was found guilty in the murder case of four family members in Mauripur area.
Yaseen Baloch, along with three other accused, was prosecuted by the ATC for killing four members of a family in Mauripur area on December 28, 2013. According to the prosecution, Yaseen Baloch and his accomplice — Abdul Basit, Adil Baloch and Abdul Wajid — barged into the house of Muzaffar Baig and made the family hostage at gunpoint.
Police alleged that female family members were subjected to rape by the accused prior to killing Muzafar Baig, his wife and two sons, and also injuring his daughter.
The accused, who were arrested by the police after a shoot-out, targeted the family because of Baig’s political affiliation and ethnic background.
The court observed that the prosecution proved its case against Yaseen Baloch and handed down death sentence to him for murdering the four family members. The court also awarded him 17-year imprisonment for injuring a woman and possession of illegal weapon.
The court acquitted one accused, Abdul Wajid, for want of evidence while the judgment regarding cases of other two accused, Adil Baloch and Abdul Basit, which were tried under juvenile justice system, will be announced on Thursday.
Suspect remanded
The administrative judge of an ATC remanded a suspect to police custody in the murder case of a police officer.
Ishaq alias Bobby, an activist of a banned militant outfit, was produced before the court for obtaining his remand in connection with the murder case of SHO Preedy Ejaz Ali Khawaj.
According to police, the suspect killed the SHO Preedy police in April 2015 in the DHA area. The investigation officer (IO) submitted that police wanted to conduct a thorough investigation with regard to the murder of police officer and sought the suspect’s police remand. The suspect is also said to be involved in killing famous qawwak Amjad Sabri and army personnel.
NBW for MQM leaders
An ATC has issued non-bailable arrest warrants of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) leaders Farooq Sattar, Amir Khan and others in media house attack and anti-Pakistan rally case.
Police had booked MQM leaders and office bearers for attending a gathering of the MQM Rabita Committee meeting in which MQM founder Altaf Hussain delivered speech against armed forces and state institutions. The cases were lodged against Altaf Hussain and other leaders of the MQM under conspiracy, offence against state and anti-terrorism charges. Complainants submitted in the FIR that they came to know that the MQM founder made a speech at Rabita Committee’s meeting against armed forces and sovereignty of the country.
