Two cops die in accidents

BAHAWALPUR: Two cops died in separate road accidents on Thursday.
Cop Nasir Hanif who was on duty on the Karachi Morr police checkpost when a speeding vehicle hit him, leaving him dead on the spot. He was buried at his native village in Basti Bhattian. His funeral was attended Regional Police Officer Muhammad Idrees Ahmad and DPO Bahawalpur Ishfaq Ahamd Khan and others officers. In the second incident near Khairpur Tamewali, cop Muhammad Shafique died when a tractor-trolley hit his motorbike. He was the gunman of the DSP Khairpur Tamewali.
CRACKDOWN ON QUACKS: Commissioner Saqib Zafar Thursday asked officials to intensify ongoing crackdown on manufacturers of spurious medicines and quacks in Bahawalpur division. Presiding over a video link conference of divisional task force for health at his conference room, he said Executive District Officers of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahimyar Khan, Secretary District quality control board, drug inspectors, officers of health department and other officers and officials of the relevant departments attended the meeting.
The commissioner asked officials of all districts of the Bahawalpur division to wipe out menace of quackery and manufacturing of spurious medicines. He directed strict action against drug controller Muhammad Zain for his slackness in performing his official duties. The meeting was told that last month the officials concerned inspected 578 medical stores, collected 161 samples of medicines, sealed 36 medical stores, dispatched 44 cases to quality control board, lodged 6 FIRs and imposed Rs 500,000 fine on violators in Bahawalpur division.
