LAHORE: Clear weather in most parts of the country helped skywatchers to witness the Super Moon on Monday and those who missed this rare phenomenon could watch the next such moon only after 18 years.
Met officials said as the moon came close to the earth, it appears 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than the normal full moon and this phenomenon is called the Super Moon. They said as orbit of the moon around the earth is elliptical, causes to change the distance between the earth and the moon.
They said last such type of Super Moon was seen in 1948 while citizens can experience such a brighter Super Moon again on 25th November, 2034.
A large number of citizens gathered at their rooftops as well as high rise buildings to witness the Super Moon. A good number of youngsters, students and people from other walks of life were seen very excited while watching the Super Moon and were seen taking selfies on this historical moment. People also uploaded their pictures on different social media sites.
Meanwhile, the Met officials said continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. They predicted mainly cold and dry weather in most parts of the country while shallow foggy conditions likely to occur in plain areas of Punjab during morning hours.
Monday’s lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Skardu where mercury reached down to -06°C while in Lahore, it was 20°C and humidity was 72 percent.
