PU Law College students protest ‘unfair’ marking
LAHORE
A large number of Punjab University’s Law College students staged a demonstration on Monday against what they termed unfair marking of one paper in the varsity’s LLB Part-II examination.
The demo by the students also caused a severe traffic mess on the main Canal Road and many adjacent roads for quite some time. The demonstrators said a large number of students had failed in the paper only because of unfair marking by the examiners. They demanded the government look into the issue and provide relief to them.
Meanwhile a PU spokesman said that a fact-finding committee was already investigating the failure of a large number of candidates in one paper of LLB Part 2.
The spokesman claimed that there were, however, some other reasons behind this protest. He said the protesters’ real demand was restoration of recently expelled students from University Law College and they wanted to pressurise the administration through such tactics. He added the university administration would not accept any pressure.
The spokesman said the fact-finding committee was working on resolution of the problem as per law which would take some time, so there was no reason to stage a protest demonstration and create problems for the public as well. The spokesman said that the university had extended the date to apply for supplementary examinations by November 25.
Meanwhile, the students of PU Hailey College of Commerce also protested over an abrupt increase in fee. However the PU spokesman claimed that it was only because of mere misunderstanding. He said the university had not increased tuition fee or related fee. The spokesman said the fee for re-examination was increased and students who failed would have to deposit the revised fee.
