UAF sets up country’s largest girls hostel

FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, has set up the country’s largest and state-of-the-art hostel for 1,000 girls that will be functional by next week. This was stated by UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while addressing a press briefing at the newly-constructed hostel here on Thursday.

He said that the hostel was established with the funding of the Punjab government that had earmarked Rs 400 million for the project. The hostel was providing the latest facilities, including sports complex, grounds, airy rooms and mosque, he added.

He said the university admitted students on district quota with special focus on agriculture background and rural population. To meet the demand of increasing population, the university was expanding its infrastructure, he added. He said that the area from the UAF Post Office to Gawindpura Gate had been surrounded by houses and slums.

He said that the university had set up Shahbaz Town and shifted the families of the slums to the colony, comprising state-of-the-art 120 residential units.

He said that the university was had 13 mosques and 26 hostels. Each hostel was also having its own mosques in it, he added. He said that the university was making all-out efforts to provide modern facilities to the students. He said that the enrollment of students was increasing due to which the UAF was coming up with new initiatives, including new buildings, sports facilities and laboratories.

He said that there were more buildings being constructed for various departments to overcome to student capacity issues and nearly by the end of this year, three more blocks would be completed. He said that we had set up working women hostel, daycare centre, five hostels at the Postgraduate Agriculture Research Station and many others. He said that the UAF had revamped academic, research and outreach programmes.
