Additional classrooms project to start from South Punjab: CM

Says 10,000 classrooms to be built in schools

LAHORE

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that programme of construction of more than 10,000 additional classrooms has been evolved under “Khadim-e-Punjab Schools Programme” which will be started from Southern Punjab and implemented in phases.

He said that due to this programme, boy and girl students would avail better educational facilities and would be motivated towards their studies due to best educational environment.

He was presiding over a meeting regarding “Khadim-e-Punjab Schools Programme”, here Thursday. The meeting reviewed progress of different matters of the programme and gave formal approval to the design of additional classrooms.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said future of the country depended on best education and training of youths and equipping them with modern knowledge. He said the Punjab government was implementing a comprehensive programme for the improvement of education sector in the province. 

He said that committees were being constituted at district and division level to ensure quality and speed of the work. He said missing facilities would be made available in those schools where additional classrooms were being constructed. He said steps were already being taken for providing missing facilities in the schools and billions of rupees had been allocated for this purpose. Secretary Communication & Works gave a briefing on pace of progress on the matters of “Khadim-e-Punjab Schools Programme”. 

US envoy: American Consul General, Yuriy Fedkiw called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday. 

Matters of mutual interest, promotion of Pak-American relations and enhancing cooperation in different sectors were discussed during the meeting.

Talking to American Consul General, the chief minister said there were good friendly relations between Pakistan and America. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League-N government had achieved prominent successes in various sectors during the last three and a half years.

Shahbaz Sharif said that due to economic policies, Pakistan was being included in emerging economies of the world and foreign exchange reserves had reached a record level. He said speedy work was being carried out on different projects, including energy projects and fruits of their completion would soon reach the people. He said Pakistan of today is safer, peaceful, prosperous and developed as compared to 2013. He said the whole nation was united for eliminating terrorism and Pakistan Army, people and other law enforcement agencies had rendered unprecedented sacrifices in the war against terrorism.

The chief minister expressed the hope that Pak-US relations would further strengthen in the coming days.

American Consul General, Yuriy Fedkiw appreciated speedy completion of development projects in different sectors. He lauded the measures taken for elimination of child labour and protection of rights of brick-kiln labourers.
