KARACHI: The PHF officials, players of the national hockey team and their management have not been informed about any meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif which was expected to be held on January 1 in Islamabad, ‘The News’ has learnt.
PHF had been promised that the meeting would be held on January 1. Pakistan women cricket team was also to be invited.
The sources said that the government officials have not said anything about the meeting — whether it has been postponed or cancelled.
The PHF sources confirmed that there was no preparation for the meeting in Lahore.
They further said that the players and the management had not gathered to discuss anything.
Some people said the meeting was going to be held on January 4, but PHF said it had not received invitation for the meeting with PM for January 4.
This is the third time that the meeting with the PM, who is also the patron in chief of PHF, has been cancelled.
“It is surprising that the PM has time to meet British boxer Amir Khan, but he does not have time for our own players who won the silver medal at the Champions Trophy 2014,” a disgruntled former hockey player said.
The players said they were hugely disappointed by the failure of the PHF to arrange the meeting with the PM.
A group of former Olympians and international players said the matter was not as simple as was being portrayed.
“There is something fishy about this. This is the third time that their scheduled meeting has not been held,” a former Olympian said.
