Worst corruption in KP govt: Fazl

PESHAWAR: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, said on Wednesday that the sit-in of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on November 02 is against the Supreme Court and those coming for the dharna will be on the run.

He said there was no justification for protests and sit-ins after the Supreme Court’s decision to take up the Panama Leaks case.“But the sit-ins are actually aimed at derailing the democratic system and putting pressure on the top judiciary to get the desired verdict,” he said while addressing a Paigham-e-Amn Conference here.

He blasted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its chairman Imran Khan, saying that India was spraying innocent Kashmiris with bullets but some people in Pakistan were talking nonsense. He said that no one could dare derail the democratic system in the country.

Fazlur Rehman said the government had been demonstrating great patience and showing leniency to them. “But if any action is taken against them, they would never talk of sit-ins in their life. The PTI workers have not seen any hardships and they don’t have the capacity to bear the slightest difficulty and even nominal measures would be enough to bring them to their senses,” he added.

The Maulana said the PTI was like a balloon, which seems quite big in size, but it can’t face even a needle. He added that the drama was being staged to sabotage the process of development in the country, while the worst corruption was done in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.“By raising hue and cry and criticising the federal government, they are trying to hide their own sins,” the Maulana said.

He condemned the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa coalition government and said that they don’t even know how to run the government. “If the chief minister doesn’t have administrative and financial powers to control the police, how would he be able to ensure the law and order situation in the province,” he added.

The JUI-F chief alleged that the KP government had been committing corruption through non-governmental organisations (NGOs) through which “Jews” send them money sans any audit and record. “Even the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) can’t put a hand on them. But the JUI-F has stood up to them and stopped their corrupt practices,” he maintained.

“Now the provincial government is taking a loan amounting to $700 million from the World Bank,” he said, adding that the provincial government was incapable and inefficient.“The chairmen of several institutions have issued charge-sheet against the KP government,” he said. “But when Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak and some ministers were found involved in corrupt practices, the powers of those institutions were curtailed through legislation,” he added.

He said corruption was done in the Bank of Khyber but the government, instead of constituting a judicial inquiry, formed an inquiry committee under Sikandar Khan Sherpao of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP), a party which was expelled from the government on corruption charges. The JUI-F leader said the PTI was demanding a judicial inquiry into the PanamaLeaks, but it was not ready for a similar inquiry into the ‘Khyber Leaks.’

Fazlur Rehman alleged that Imran Khan was working on someone else’s agenda, but they won’t allow anyone to derail the democratic system. He said the situation on the border was tense. He said in such a situation, there was a greater need for national unity. “But I don’t know who Imran is going to appease in this situation. His show would flop badly,” he remarked.
