The universe may have a ‘self-destruct button’ that could wipe out life inan instant
LAHORE: A new video describes the most efficient way of destroying the universe. It involves particles moving to a more stable low energy 'vacuum' state. Higgs Field, which gives everything mass, may be less stable than thought. If it were tipped towards its true vacuum state the chain reaction would annihilate the universe and change physics forever.
The destruction of the universe may be a task best left to evil super villains, but finding the most efficient way to bring existence as we know it to an end is a job for physicists. One theory mulled over by scientists is that universal annihilation could be as easy as pushing a button.
What’s more, this cosmic self-destruct process would wipe out everything with such ruthlessly efficiency that life and the universe as we know it could never exist again. The theory is described in full in a new animated video from YouTube science explainers Kurzgesagt.
It explains that at the basis of the self-destruction is a concept of energy levels and stability. But they add further work is needed to be done to confirm this, which they’ll basically do by listening to the modulations using different types of equipment. The newspaper has for months been keeping a running interactive tally of Trump’s Twitter attacks, but Monday appears to be the first time it was published in print form.
