JI also launches campaign against corruption
PESHAWAR: After the campaign of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) against the alleged corruption of the federal government, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has also launched a drive against corrupt practices as a large number of its workers gathered in Nowshera district to attend the party’s two-day congregation.
Though it was a religious gathering, senior party leaders led by JI head Senator Sirajul Haq spoke on almost all political issues, including the looting of exchequer by the rulers. The JI had earlier launched a movement against corruption by holding a train march from Peshawar to Karachi.
Sirajul Haq claimed that JI is capable of providing rights to the people if it came into power. He supported education for girls as well as their right to inheritance. The two-day congregation in Azakhel in Nowshera was attended by a large number of youth and women.
The JI chief and other leaders distributed prizes among the winners of the debate competition, recitation of the holy Quran and other competitions that were held during the gathering. A number of senior government officials and leaders from other parties also attended the gathering on the invitation of the JI leadership. A makeshift city was set up at the spacious piece of land measuring about 200 acres at a private township for the gathering.
Around 35,000 tents were installed for holding the event and for the stay of participants. Special arrangements had been made to provide clean drinking water, food and others facilities to the participants.
