Islamabad: A government university in Islamabad has proposed the deployment of Rangers at local public sector varsities to counter possible terrorist attacks.
Professor Abdur Razzaq Memon of the Federal Urdu University of Arts Science and Technology, Islamabad campus told a meeting of vice chancellors here that Rangers personnel had been deployed at many universities in the country, so the Higher Education Commission should recommend to the federal government the deployment of Rangers at the capital city’s campuses too to ensure the security of students and staff amid threats of terrorist attacks.
The city’s most government and private universities have already announced closure of their campuses until January 9 for security reasons.
The police have asked them to ensure proper security of their campuses for resumption of classes.
