Wants to avoid animosity and uphold dignity of his office

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan has said that he would no more respond to the criticism directed against him in the harsh and blunt manner he did a few days ago in view of the dignity and honour of the office he holds and for saving the city and the province from further animosity.

The Sindh governor stated this while talking to newsmen on late Thursday evening after taking a round of the Empress Market and the adjoining areas of Saddar to inspect the ongoing development works there.

While referring to the hard-hitting talk he delivered on two different occasions on Wednesday last in response to the allegations levelled against him by former city Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, the governor lamented that his talk the previous day, in response to criticism against him, had led to animosity on the political horizon.

The governor said that after he had delivered the blunt talk in response to the criticism directed against him, he had been contacted by his friends and well-wishers who had informed him that the harsh tone he just adopted did not match his mild mannerism and polite ways.

“I myself feel regret that an environment of animosity was created in the last few days or the last 72 hours due to such talk, which is not good for the overall situation, for the city, and the province, for maintenance of law and order,” he said.

The governor said that he would not indulge any more in any such talk or conversation that could increase animosity and tension in the environment and also went against honour and dignity of his office.

Regarding the allegations of corrupt practices and holding of dual nationality by him levelled by former city Nazim, Dr Ebad said that he had been and he would continue to do work in future completely in line with the law and the Constitution as any of his actions never violated the law and the Constitution and the oath of office he had taken. He said that he had always adhered to the oath of office he had taken.

The Sindh governor said the government would make full focus on continuity and completion of development works in the city after restoration of the law and order situation as the earlier progress on development projects had been slowed down due to the focus of the government on restoring peace in Karachi.

He said that the targeted operation in Karachi against criminal activities and terrorism would continue. He said the police and Rangers had played an important role in restoring the law and order situation, a priority of the government.

The governor said that he had recently conducted a meeting with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in the presence of Sindh CM where Bilawal had assured his fullest support on political basis for doing development works in Karachi.

He said it had also been decided that all elected representatives of people in the city, including MNAs, MPAs and local government office-holders, would be fully taken into confidence and taken aboard for development works in Karachi. In this regard, the provincial government and the CM would provide full support to incumbent Deputy Mayor Dr Arshad Vohra.

He said that incomplete development projects in the city, including the Lyari Expressway, would be completed in due course of time. The governor also visited other parts of the city for inspecting the pace of development projects.
