LAHORE: The Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC) said on Thursday the Punjab government had shattered madrassas and also aiming to do the same in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The DPC also announced holding the Shuhada-e-Islam and Difa-e-Pakistan conference in Islamabad on October 28.

This was stated by the DPC leaders at a press conference here. DPC Chairman Maulana Samiul Haq, Liaquat Baloch, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, Allama Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi, Shah Awais Noorani, Haq, Syed Yusuf Shah, Abdullah Gul, Ajmal Wazir, Ziaullah Shah, Abdul Ghafoor Rokhari and others spoke on the occasion.

They stressed the government adopt an effective foreign policy on Kashmir and appoint a full-time foreign minister. They said statements of some cabinet members showed as if they were speaking Modi's language. They said some parties were facing restrictions and the identity cards of dozens of leaders had been blocked which meant cancellation of their citizenship which was unconstitutional and against human rights.

They said the DPC would peacefully protest in a positive manner by activating people to protest on the streets.  Toa question about the army chief retirement, they said the matter should be handled according to the constitution and the DPC would support it.--SABAH

Our correspondent adds: In a joint statement they said: “The main purpose of this conference is to send a message to the entire world that the whole nation is united on Kashmir issue.” The statement further says that the government’s action against Hafiz Muhammad Saeed is affecting Kashmir cause and benefiting India and USA.

The council also raised the issue of blocking Maulana Ahmad Ludhianvi’s identity card and termed it extra-judicial action of the government as its meant cancellation of citizenship. The government could not deprive any citizen of his basic human rights.

“DPC is free from any kind of sectarianism and intolerance and all the parties which are part of the council are united. The country is facing war-like situation and under these circumstances any action against the patriotic citizen means a great favour to the enemies of Pakistan like Modi," says the statement.

The statement further says that the council has decided to consult with the legal experts on the issue of ban on Ulema and religious leaders after which they would file a petition in the Supreme Court against government’s action.
