LAHORE

The staffers of civil courts Tuesday suspended court work for several hours and staged a protest on the premises of district courts and Lahore High Court after a lawyer badly thrashed one of their colleagues at civil courts.

A group of lawyers led by advocate Malik Imran badly thrashed the reader (court official) Faisal.

The lawyer had asked about the address of a court on which Faisal denied saying he did not know where the court was located. The lawyer took the reply of court staffer as offensive and started thrashing him.

The sources in the judiciary informed The News that when the lawyer asked about the address of the court the court official said he did not know on which the lawyer first used derogatory language after that the court official also responded in same manner which caused scuffle. The sources also said the lawyer thrashed the court official and the court official also slapped the lawyer.

After that lawyers assembled there who also supported their colleague, thrashed the court staffer and posed threats of dire consequences.

After the incident, the employees marched towards Lahore High Court and tried to meet with the LHC chief justice to record their protest but LHC registrar directed them to submit written complaint assuring them that their grievance would be addressed.

The suspension of judicial work for several hours caused troubles for the litigants who reached courts from remote areas.

On this matter, the Lahore Bar Association president Arshad Jahangir Jhoja said the bar strongly condemned the incident and they had no support for the non-professional lawyers.

It is worth-mentioning that this is the second incident which affected the judicial work as in first incident the licence of Lahore Bar Association (LBA)’s vice-president Rana Saeed Anwar was suspended by the supervisory committee headed by the LHC chief justice over his misconduct with an additional district & sessions judge after that lawyers started boycotting the courts and demanded resignation of the chief justice.
