Wapda projects at advance stage,to produce 10,738MW power
ISLAMABAD: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda ) is working on some nine hydropower projects which will add 10,738MW cheap hydel electricity to the national grid system on completion.
Giving details, official sources told APP here that these projects included 969MW Neelum Jhelum Hydropower project; 1,410MW Tarbela 4th extension project; 1,410MW Tarbela 5th extension project; 108MW Golen Gol project; 2,160MW Dasu (Stage 1); 18.9MW Kurram Tangi (Stage 1); 4,500MW Diamer Bhasha Dam; 128MW Keyal Khwar and 34.5MW Harpoprojects.
They said three projects, including Neelum Jhelum, Tarbela 4th and Golen Gol, would start supplying 2,487MW to the national grid by December next year.
They said the projects were at an advance stage and would help bridge the demand and supply gap of the power shortfall. Similarly, the sources said 34.5MW Harpo hydropower would be ready by 2019, while 2 ,160 Dasu Stage 1 would start generation by March 2020.
