LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Sunday sought a report on the PTI’s defeat in the first phase of the local government (LG) elections in 12 districts of Punjab.
According to PTI sources, the party will have a detailed review of the results and the report. In the light of the report, a future line of action would be announced later.
On Saturday night, PTI Punjab Organiser Ch Muhammad Sarwar told the media that the PTI, despite some reservations, contested the LG polls for the sake of democracy, adding the party would maintain the same spirit during the next phases as well.
Meanwhile, PTI Lahore organiser Shafqat Mahmood on Sunday resigned from his position after his party’s worst defeat in the first phase of the local government polls in Lahore.
In messages posted on the social media, the PTI leader said the party’s performance in the LG polls was “worse than expected”.
“The PTI fared much worse than expected in the Lahore LG elections. We did our best but our best was not good enough,” he said.
“As the district in-charge, it is my moral duty to accept responsibility for this poor performance. I have today resigned as Lahore organiser,” he added.According to unofficial results, Pakistan Muslim League-N grabbed 220 seats in the provincial capital while the PTI could secure 12 seats only.
