ISLAMABAD: The Turkish Embassy in Islamabad has taken the lead in following the verdict of the Supreme Court of Pakistan for using Urdu in official communication instead of English. It did so while extending its invitation for the 92nd anniversary of the country’s Republic Day that was observed here on Thursday.
The invitation was issued by Turkish Ambassador Sadik Babur Girgin and his spouse Mrs Asley Girgin.
The invitation followed strict use of Urdu. The ambassador who hosted the reception for the third time in Islamabad always gave his address in three languages — Urdu, Turkish and English.
Ambassador Sadik Girgin didn’t use any English word in the invitation where an Urdu word was available. Even the numbers were also printed in Urdu except the e-mail address which had been printed in English. Asked about change over of language for invitation from English to Urdu, the ambassador, with his traditional broad smile, referred to the judgment of the host country’s Supreme Court.
