FBR nominates officials to respond to FIA requests

In order to avoid any delay in providing information in certain cases and inquiries of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has nominated four Chief Collectors as focal persons for various Customs Department across the country.

According to a notification, available with The News, issued by Qasim Khan Khattak, Secretary (Mgt.C-II) of the FBR, Chief Collector of Customs Appraisement (South), Karachi will act as a focal person to respond to FIA queries related to MCC Appraisement-West, Karachi, MCC Appraisement-East and MCC Port Qasim, Karachi. Chief Collector of Customs Enforcement (South), Karachi as a focal person will respond to FIA inquiries related to MCC Exports, Karachi, MCC Exports (Port Qasim), Karachi, MCC Preventive, Karachi, MCC Hyderabad, MCC Quetta and MCC Gwadar.

Similarly, Chief Collector of Customs (North), Islamabad will work as a focal person and will respond to FIA queries related to MCC, Peshawar, MCC, Islamabad, MCC, Sialkot and MCC Gilgit-Baltistan whereas Chief Collector of Customs Central, Lahore as a focal person will respond to FIA queries MCC Appraisement, Lahore, MCC Preventive, Lahore, MCC Faisalabad and MCC Multan.

It may be relevant to mention here that the issue of inordinate delay in disposing of FIA cases was taken up when Customs Department could not respond to different requests of Assistant Director FIA Ijaz Ahmed in various cases. He had written a number of letters to seek information but Customs Department asked him to approach FBR. 

Tevta: Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has said that Tevta is revising old curricula through special gap-analysis study. 

He expressed these views while addressing a meeting to review the progress of Academics Department at Tevta Secretariat. 

He said that exercise of reviving old curricula was being done in consultation with stakeholders especially taking into account the relevant industry through comprehensive survey by using special Tool/Questionnaire.  A total of 32 curricula of five different demand-driven sectors have been recently identified ranging from three years’ DAE to three months short courses. 

He said five sectors, including construction, hospitality, beautician, industrial stitching (garments) and spoken languages were identified;  32 courses have been selected under these sectors, including three-year DAE in Civil Technology, two-year vocational courses, including draftsman civil, plumber & pipe fitter, architectural drafting, 1-year courses of draftsman civil, civil surveyor, quantity surveyor, plumber & sanitary installer & beautician, and 23 courses of three to six months session.

He said that committee comprising of academics and operation wings of Tevta had been tasked to approach the related leading industry/market in order to chalk out the Gap of Teaching Methodologies, practices and curricula prevailing in Tevta, with that of implemented by these industries.  The input of gap-analysis in the form of feedback received from the stakeholders would be incorporated to make necessary relevant improvement. The goal is to attain the gap-analysis reports for these five sectors within one month, while improvement in current teaching methodologies and practices in the light of same, will be made accordingly, as early as possible.
