IHCBA seeks resignation of responsible officials
Illegal IHC appointments
ISLAMABAD: Following the Supreme Court’s September 26 judgment declaring several appointments in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) as illegal, the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) on Thursday demanded resignations of officials responsible for making those appointments.
Senior lawyer Muhammad Arif Chaudhry on whose petition the Supreme Court delivered the said verdict tabled a resolution saying, “In order to implement Paras 30 and 85 of the Supreme Court judgment, all those responsible for illegal appointments should quit their offices.
“The bar association further resolves that in case the Supreme Court’s judgment is not implemented, lawyers shall take direct action.” Addressing lawyers, IHCBA General Secretary Waqas Malik said lawyers may lock the courtroom if the judges responsible for illegal appointment did not quit.
“Lawyers offered sacrifices for the rule of law and restoration of the judiciary,” Waqas Malik said. Senior advocate Rana Abid Nazir, who has also filed a reference against the IHC Chief Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), said he had written letters to the SJC members along with the observations of the Supreme Court bench that declared scores of appointments in the IHC as illegal.
