‘Steps taken to improve performance of hospitals’

Punjab Primary and Secondary Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan has said solid steps are being taken by the department to improve performance indicators of DHQ/THQ hospitals and to run their administrative as well as financial matters more efficiently.

According to a handout issued here on Sunday, the secretary said that 39 health managers who had completed training from Management and Professional Development Department after passing NTS exam had been posted as medical superintendents in different DHQ and THQ hospitals purely on merit. He said that the initiatives would help transform the hospitals into patients-friendly institutions. Ali Jan Khan said that, on the directions of Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, long-lasting steps had been started for the health sector development.

Ali Jan Khan said that special monthly allowance of Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 would also be given to the health managers according to their grades. He said that hospital management would improve as trained and qualified professionals would run these hospitals with a different strategy.

He said the revamp programme for all the DHQ hospitals had been started through which the gaps in the existing infrastructure of the hospitals would be filled. He added that better health facilities would be provided to the patients, repair and maintenance of medical equipment would be ensured and health management information system would be evolved at the hospital level. Patients will see a changed atmosphere in the hospitals in the coming days, he claimed.
