Says Pakistan being looted in the name of democracy
KARACHI: Pakistan's former ambassador to the United Nations Abdullah Hussain Haroon has said CPEC will benefit China, not Pakistan. He said Pakistan is being looted in the name of democracy. He said this on the book launch of famous writer and prolific opinion piece contributor Moazzam Husain. The book named “Putting Pakistan Right” discusses the war on terror, energy, transit corridors and economic development.
Haroon acted as the chief guest at the book launch ceremony. However, it was also attended by former governor of the State Bank of Pakistan Saleem Raza, former secretary general of the All Pakistan Newspaper Society Arshad Zuberi, Zeenat Haroon and Begum Yousuf Haroon.
Several leaders from business, industry, government circles, the media and the civil society also attended the event. The event began with recitation from the Holy Quran. Following the recitation, the author welcomed the guests.
While giving an introduction of his book, Moazzam Hussain discussed issues plaguing Pakistan. On the other hand, the chief guest of the event Abdullah Hussain Haroon said that the author had written this book to highlight the issues facing Pakistan with a lot of dedication. He said the book will impress the readers a lot.
“Moazzam Husssain has chosen to address pertinent threats and everyday issues that are plaguring our lives,” he said. “Nations are built on the foundations of emerging ideas and viewpoints and the journey to success is completed by following the light of these ideas and viewpoints.”
He also went on to say that the people leave this mortal world but their ideas become eternal. Pakistan's former ambassador to the United Nations said that CPEC would not help the people of Pakistan at all. “It is only drafted to help Chinese materials reach Gwadar,” he claimed. “This plan will only help China to flourish.”
He claimed that China wasn’t providing US$45 billion for free. “$35 billion is the commercial loan attached to this amount,” he claimed. “Sindh has 20 per cent partnership in this loan, which makes me think as to how Sindh is going to return the loan.” While expressing his views, Haroon said that Pakistan was being looted in the name of democracy, forcing people to pay newly-introduced taxes.
