As many as 11 illegal hydrants were demolished on Friday in the Damloti area, Malir, and Chakra Goth, Korangi, according to a statement.
The operation was conducted in compliance with orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
A sessions judge and managing director of the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB), Misbahuddin Farid, was also present on the occasion.
As per the statement, cases have also been registered against seven owners of the illegal hydrants, while heavy machinery and three generators were also seized along with 100 feet-long pipes.
The action comes in light of the Supreme Court’s directives issued on September 8 in which a bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali had categorically ordered Karachi’s water utility to close down all illegal hydrants at the earliest to ensure equal water supply for the entire city.
