Gang-rape victim kills herself on not finding justice

MUZAFFARGARH: A 20-year-old gang-rape victim committed suicide in front of the City Police Station here on Tuesday.

Sonia Bibi, d/o Muhammad Ramzan Dasti, of Dastiwala, burnt herself alive by dousing her in petrol. As a result, she received serious burns. Police shifted her to the DHQ Hospital but the doctors referred her to the Nishtar Hospital in Multan due to her critical condition. She was admitted to the Nishtar Hospital where she died after four hours.

When the victim was admitted to the DHQ Hospital, she gave a written statement to Dr Ijaz, stating that ASI Noor Hussain Dakna, Constable Abdul Qayyum and Munir alias Moona had allegedly raped her about a week ago.

According to the statement, she went to the police station two times but the police allegedly refused to register a case.Police have registered a case against five accused Shah Nawaz, Sabir Hussain, ASI Noor Hussain Dakna, Munir alias Moona and Constable Abdul Qayyum on the report of the deceased’s father. Police have started investigations after arresting the accused ASI and constable. Police have also made the deceased’s written statement a part of the case.

The case has been registered under sections 302 and 376 of the PPC. Meanwhile, DPO Awais Ahmad Malik suspended SHO Bilal Khan Pathan.On the other hand, the suspended SHO claimed that the victim along with the accused had come to the police station some days ago and reached reconciliation after taking money.
