ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan High Commission in India on Monday said 35 Pakistani passengers were stranded at the New Delhi Railway Station due to the cancellation of the Samjhota Express.
In a statement, the commission said it was cooperating with the stranded passengers and providing them with food and other facilities.
The commission has also raised the issue with the Indian External Affairs Ministry and asked for alternative arrangements to send the stranded passengers back home.
The commission has established a helpline to facilitate the stranded passengers. The stranded passengers have been asked to contact at the numbers: Ilyas Mehmood Nizami (0091) 8130410164, Muhammad Shabbir (0091) 9717221589, Sohail Ahmed (0091) 9560019477, Landline no (0091-11) 26110601, 26110602, 26110605, 24100905 and fax no (0091-11) 26872339.
Earlier, the Indian Railway authorities once again cancelled the Samjhota Express which was scheduled to depart from Lahore on Monday. Sources said that relevant authorities have forwarded a message that protests in India have yet not finished; therefore, the train should not be sent.
Previously, the Samjhota Express was denied entry into India from the Wagah station on October 8. The Indian authorities asked the Pakistan Railways to offload the passengers and not to send the train as they could not guarantee security after protests staged by farmers in the Indian Punjab.
