Sindh Assembly opposition leader and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Khawaja Izharul Hassan has written a letter to the Sindh local government minister, urging him to take urgent measures for saving areas in District Malir facing serious civic mess owing to the virtual collapse of sewerage system in the area.
The civic and municipal issues of certain areas in Malir district came once again to light as the PS-127 constituency of Sindh Assembly, mainly comprising areas of Malir, went to by-poll on Thursday as candidate of the Pakistan Peoples Party emerged victorious in the by-election, defeating the Muttahida Qaumi Movement candidate.
“It is to inform you that during my visit to the various areas of Malir District on September 2, I noticed that the areas from Malir 15 to the Jaffar-e-Tayyar Society have transformed into ponds because of stagnant sewerage water which is causing various diseases in the area and at on the other hand, residents are facing difficulties,” said the letter sent by the opposition leader to the minister.
“The sewerage system of the area has totally collapsed while the deputy commissioner concerned is not giving any response to the public representatives of the area and not considering the applications and complaints of the local population,” he said.
The local government minister forwarded this letter to the managing-director of the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board, directing him to resolve the complaints of residents of the Malir area owing to dysfunctional sewerage system of the locality.
