While reaffirming his country’s commitment to help strengthen Pakistan’s economy through multiple mega projects in diverse sectors, Mu Yongpeng, the acting Consul General of China in Karachi, on Thursday said that development of Pakistan’s education sector was also a priority for China.

Speaking at a gift distribution ceremony hosted by the Sindh Education Foundation, Yongpeng said that proper education facilities for children were imperative for any nation to have a bright future.

To this end, he said, that support from Chinese companies for Pakistan’s education sector would be increased over the near future.

In his address, the acting consul general specially referred to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as “a major, high-magnitude economic project” and termed it critical for the economic wellbeing of not just China and Pakistan, but the entire region.

On a lighter note, Yongpeng spoke about his stay and experiences in Pakistan. “I have been serving in Pakistan for so many years that I have started to feel more Pakistani than Chinese,” he said, adding that the intelligence and hospitality of Pakistani people were the most endearing features for him.

The event itself was held to distribute school supply packages sponsored by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) among students of the Shaheed Jam Fellowship School, that is supported by the SEF under its Assisted Schools (SAS) programme.
