ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has served tax notices on PTI Chairman Imran Khan and other leaders such as Jehangir Tareen, Aleem Khan as well as PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi for owning offshore companies.
According to details, the FBR served notices on members of PM family including his son and daughter. A senator belonging to JUI-F was also among the list of those who owned offshore companies and was also served notices by the tax authorities.
The sources said that the notices had been issued under section 176 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 to verify the information with the FBR’s data base. The FBR wanted to hear the viewpoint of the owners of offshore companies as reported by the papers released by ICIJ. The FBR has asked the persons concerned to explain their position whether they are owners of offshore accounts and other related information or not.
