Govt keen to promote Cholistan livestock: Channar

BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Minister and Cholistan Development Authority chairman Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar Monday said the Punjab government was very keen to promote Cholistan livestock.
Presiding over a consultative workshop held to devise and integrated a ten-year development programme in Cholistan, Channar said massive development projects have been undertaken in the Punjab Chief Minister’s special package amounting to Rs 1 billion and 373 million for the Cholistan people. He said the government has also undertaken a special initiative to establish University of Animal Sciences at Bahawalpur to promote livestock of the area.
Commissioner Bahawalpur division was the guest of honour. The minister said Cholistan is a living desert where brave and patriotic people have been braving the harshness of desert with patience. Channar said the Punjab government would be requested to establish the girls and boys degree colleges, vocational training institutes, cattle markets and modern slaughter houses in Cholistan.
He said the Punjab government has already devised a transparent and merit-based allotment mechanism to protect the economic rights of the people of Cholistan.
Channar said the Punjab government would also take special measures to devise special quota for students of Cholistan in academic institutions and special consideration to maximize merit-based jobs through Punjab Public Service Commission.
He appreciated the Commissioner’s dedication to renovate the cultural heritage of Bahawalpur and installing Derawari Cannon and displaying the historic car in the premises of the Bahawalpur museum.
The commissioner said 1,200 cusec water would be provided to the Cholistan area from Melsi Saifan during the flood season. He appreciated the organizers of the workshop.
Earlier, MD CDA Naeem Iqbal Bukhari briefing the participants said the government is committed to utilize modern technology to quicken the pace of development in Cholistan. MPAs Khalid Mahmood Jajja, Mian Muhammad Islam Aslam and Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar also spoke.

Killer gets death on 3 counts

BAHAWALPUR: Additional District and Sessions Judge Rana Abdul Hakeem on Monday awarded death sentence on three counts to a man in a triple murder case.
According to prosecution, Farooq alias Boota had murdered his wife Naseem Bibi, mother-in-law Rafiqan Bibi and wife of his brother-in-law Zarina Bibi over a domestic dispute at Chak 112/DB, Yazman, on May 30, 2013. Meanwhile, Chishtian Additional Sessions Judge Muzammil Musa awarded death sentence on two counts and Rs 400,000 fine to a man in a murder case. According to prosecution, Nadeem had killed Haji Nazim Din and his wife Gamaan Bibi over some issue at Mohallah Nasirabad, Chishtian, on Aug 8, 2013.
MODEL BAZAAR INSPECTED: MNA and Standing Committee on Information & Broadcasting member Begum Parveen Masood Bhatti on Monday paid a surprise visit to the Model Bazaar here.
She directed the administration of the bazaar to ensure supply of commodities, fruits and vegetables to the people at the government’s fixed prices. She said that standardised and fine quality commodities of life should be provided at low cost so that the masses could be facilitated by the subsidy provided by the government. She said that strict action would be taken against hoarders and black marketers. The MNA checked cleanliness of the Model Bazaar and directed the staff to perform their duties with dedication and devotion.
RESCUE 1122 MONTHLY REPORT: Rescue 1122 Divisional Emergency Officer Dr Asif Rahim on Monday released monthly efficiency report of the previous month.
According to the report, control room received 33,262 phone calls and among them 2,026 were emergency calls. The average time to reach the emergency spot was 6.92 minute. The report said that 609 road accidents, 21 fire-related incidents, 67 quarrels, two drowning incidents, 1,032 medical emergency and 295 other rescue-related incidents were treated during the last month by the Rescue 1122 Bahawalpur.
