WAPDA retain women volleyball title
KARACHI: WAPDA retained the title when they defeated Higher Education Commission (HEC) in straight sets in the final of the National Women Volleyball Championship which ended here at the KPT Sports Complex on Sunday.
After conceding five points in the beginning, WAPDA bounced back, winning the first set 25-15.
In the second set WAPDA maintained their dominance, securing 25-12 win before grabbing the third set 25-9 to seal a comfortable victory.
In the third position match, buoyant Punjab defeated Sindh 3-0 to claim bronze medal.
Punjab, featuring mostly young players, easily won the first set 25-11. They were more brutal in the second, clinching it with 25-9 before capturing the third 25-13 to complete an emphatic victory.
Pakistan Boxing Federation’s (PBF) president Doda Khan Bhutto graced the closing ceremony.
Also present was Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) secretary Ahmed Ali Rajput.
Doda announced Rs25,000 for Sindh team who were awarded fair-play trophy.
As many as eight outfits featured in the competitions held for the first time in Sindh.
Sindh Volleyball Association’s (SVA) chief Shah Naeem Zafar said it was a successful event. “National selectors will face no problem in forming Pakistan team in future as some fine talent was seen here,” Shah told ‘The News’.
“HEC and Punjab had some highly talented players who could be used for national duty in future,” said Shah, who was recently elected as SVA chief.
