Dr Shafiq back as QAU registrar
Islamabad: Dr Shafiqur Rehman has resumed the office of the Quaid-i-Azam University registrar after restoration. The development comes after a university’s probe committee exonerated Dr Shafiq of the corruption charges.
Dr Shafiq was suspended and sent on forced leave more than a year ago after serious corruption allegations surfaced against him. There followed the formation of a committee to look into those allegations.
However, the committee found the charges to be false and thus, recommending Dr Shafiq’s restoration as registrar. In a meeting earlier this month, the Quaid-i-Azam University’s syndicate, the highest decision-making body at the university, discussed the recommendation and issued orders for the immediate reinstatement of the registrar. Dr Shafiq was quick to resume duty.
